Analyze Keyword Ranking Changes with SEO MCP

Investigate stored Rank Tracker positions by keyword, market, device, URL, and analysis date without mistaking them for live SERPs.

Use this workflow when a tracked keyword appears to move and you need to identify the exact Screpy records behind the change. Rank Tracker stores analyses for configured keywords; a result can be pending, completed, failed, or unmatched. The useful answer names its market, device, dates, and matching URL before discussing a possible cause.

Before you compare

Select the project with list_projects. Use list_rank_tracker_keywords to find the keyword and its device record; obtain its numeric keyword ID from the result. If the keyword is not tracked, stop and report that limit. Adding it consumes capacity and is a separate action.

Read the latest and previous analyses

  1. Call get_rank_tracker_keyword with the returned project UID and keyword ID.
  2. Identify the latest completed analysis and its previous comparable completed analysis. A pending or failed run is not a position.
  3. Record the country, language, device, started/finished time, position, matched URL, and coverage of stored results.
  4. Check whether the URL changed between analyses. If no owned result was found, say so without inventing a rank.
  5. If relevant, use get_rank_tracker_overview for project context; it does not replace the keyword-level record.
Find [KEYWORD] in [PROJECT] for the same country, language, and device across
its two latest completed analyses. Give dates, position, matched URL, and any
missing-result limits. Separate the observed movement from possible causes.
Read only; do not add, delete, or reanalyze keywords.

Interpret the change

A two-point position difference is a movement in stored SERP observations, not an explanation. Check whether the result URL, search features, or scan coverage changed. To investigate a website release, compare relevant crawl evidence separately. Search Console impressions and clicks answer a different question and are not contained in this Rank Tracker history.

For several related keywords, preview a segment before saving one. Do not combine mobile and desktop positions into one unlabelled average. Use the tools reference for available filters and action limits.
